Description

The colours and sculptural structure of succulents make them the perfect subject matter for a gorgeous watercolour painting! In this three-hour workshop, artist, illustrator and surfer Hannah Katarski (aka Mermaid's Coin) will teach you the fundamentals of using watercolours and how to apply them in a quirky, illustrative style.

In this fun and relaxed class, You will learn how to handle your brush to create crisp edges, mix and layer colours and apply line as an after effect. Inspired by the colours and textures of succulents, you will also experiment with wet-in- wet techniques and incorporate 'happy accidents' into a successful composition.

About the Teacher:

Hannah is a maker and illustrator who uses printmaking techniques and watercolours to create work that is vibrant, retro and fun. Her work is primarily concerned with capturing the coastal lifestyle of WA. She also has a thing for succulents.

There is a PDF document attached to all booking confirmations with a map. Mrs Trivett Place is a sharp left just before Fleet Street. It looks more like a driveway than a road. Keep walking up the hill, past Walyalup Cultural Centre and the public toilets. You will then see our little green building, number 15, tucked beneath the Roundhouse, and overlooking Bather's Beach and the J Shed.

Access is also possible from the back steps behind the J Shed or the footpath behind the Roundhouse. It's a little tucked away and if in doubt, type in 'Workshop Freo' to Google Maps or call 0431774371 for some assistance!

Thoroughly enjoyed the class, everything was well done and planned, the venue was really cute and there was plenty on nibbles and coffee! We were first taught the basics of watercolour, different techniques etc and then moved on to step by step instructions, which were very clear. Although we all painted the same picture, everyone was individual as we had the freedom of a paint palette and a dish to mix our own colours! After the main painting we were encouraged to choose a magazine cutting and draw and paint our own version of that. A fab was to spend 3 hours on a Sunday morning!
