Keeping a journal is a great way to add some much needed mindfulness into your day. It's a way to document your thoughts, feelings, what you're up to, where you've been and where you'd like to go. A record of your journeys amongst the real world as well as your internal ones .
In this three hour class Hannah from Mermaid's Coin will show you how to incorporate on-the-go techniques and creative composition ideas into your visual recordings. She will show you a variety of watercolour and mixed media techniques to create backgrounds, as well as spot illustrations to document your day. You will learn about which art materials to pack when travelling, and ways to bind loose pages together to create a bespoke journal.
Hannah will show you how to start journalling, using using suitable papers and give you some great suggestions of types of journals to buy. Please view the "what to bring" section as you'll be asked to bring some of your own images and references for this session. You don't need to bring your own journal as learning about paper quality first is important.

Please note, there is no parking directly adjacent to Workshop Freo. Parking is available at the J Shed, E Shed, Bather's Beach parking lots, and street parking is available in High Street, Cliff Street and Phillimore St. The use of public transport and local CAT buses is encouraged.
There is a PDF document attached to all booking confirmations with a map. Mrs Trivett Place is a sharp left just before Fleet Street. It looks more like a driveway than a road. Keep walking up the hill, past Walyalup Cultural Centre and the public toilets. You will then see our little green building, number 15, tucked beneath the Roundhouse, and overlooking Bather's Beach and the J Shed.
Access is also possible from the back steps behind the J Shed or the footpath behind the Roundhouse. It's a little tucked away and if in doubt, type in 'Workshop Freo' to Google Maps or call 0431774371 for some assistance!
- Notes or photos of a trip or experience you would like to document in the class.
- Totally optional: If you would like to start a new journal, Hannah recommends the Moleskin Watercolour Journal or Holcroft Spiral Bound notebook 225gsm. Paper quality is oh so important!
Closed toe shoes preferred
