Description

Workshop Freo is "Springing" into September and going "troppo!!" The colours and sculptural structure of tropical plants make them the perfect subject matter for a gorgeous watercolour painting of your favourite plant friends! In this three-hour workshop, artist, illustrator and surfer Hannah Katarski (aka Mermaid's Coin) will teach you the fundamentals of using watercolours and how to apply them in a quirky, illustrative style. Sun's out fun's out!

In this fun and relaxed class, You will learn how to handle your brush to create crisp edges and details, mix and layer colours, apply flat and graduated washes and apply line as an after effect. Inspired by the colours and shapes of tropical greenery like Monsteras, you will also experiment with wet-in- wet techniques and incorporate 'happy accidents' into a successful composition.

About the Teacher:

Hannah is a maker and illustrator who uses printmaking techniques and watercolours to create work that is vibrant, retro and fun. Her work is primarily concerned with capturing the coastal lifestyle of WA. She is a waterbaby to the core and when she's not creating art, you can find her with her toes on the nose of her mal on a wave some place.

There is a PDF document attached to all booking confirmations with a map. Mrs Trivett Place is a sharp left just before Fleet Street. It looks more like a driveway than a road. Keep walking up the hill, past Walyalup Cultural Centre and the public toilets. You will then see our little green building, number 15, tucked beneath the Roundhouse, and overlooking Bather's Beach and the J Shed.

Access is also possible from the back steps behind the J Shed or the footpath behind the Roundhouse. It's a little tucked away and if in doubt, type in 'Workshop Freo' to Google Maps or call 0431774371 for some assistance!

10 September 2018 • Watercolour Tropicals

Another fantastic morning at Workshop Freo! The teachers are amazingly skilled in their crafts and Shavaurn is always welcoming. The Watercolour Tropicals workshop was very enjoyable and relaxing, and I learnt some new skills that I can take home and practice.
